Replying to @justthisguy
@justthisguy @heyjoshua @skilldrick +1 on writers experimenting with genres, but often fidelity to the genre chokes originality and produces generic pulp.
@justthisguy @heyjoshua @skilldrick Take Dan Simmons, brilliant sci-fi & "The Horror" was a unique masterpiece. Yet "Drood" was abysmal & his "Hard Case" books are garbage.
Ian Brown @igb
@justthisguy @heyjoshua @skilldrick Stross as well. Decent sci-fi, (mostly) witty cold-war/spy spoofs, yet falls flat in his near-future police procedurals.
