This evening I (paid for and) downloaded an album I used to listen to back in the day but couldn't remember how I'd discovered the artist.

But when track 9 kicked in it all came flooding back in a Proustian rush.

I'd picked up the album because one of the tracks was often used on @ThisAmerLife as an interlude.

For a while, around the turn of the century (I was living in Chicago at the time), I'd been tracking down these interstitials.

Anyway, the artist was the "band" A-Set from circa-Y2K Chicago.

The "This American Life" interlude track was "Blue Girl". If you were/are a fan of TAL you will recognize it right away.

But, IMO, the best track on the album is track 2: "The Day and the Weight".

There's a bunch of records I've bought over the years based entirely on 10 seconds heard on @NPR in between show segments.

@NPR The interns responsible for choosing these song snippets were the hipster tastemakers of the Gen X totebag scene.
