Welp. I’ve been on Twitter for 12 years. #MyTwitterAnniversary
This weird website is, I think, a unique and important thing.
You can share whatever dumb joke your brain farts out with the entire internet almost immediately.
I mean, sure it’s full of hate and racism and mechanical propaganda. (Twitter, that is. Not your brain. Hopefully.)

But there are lots of really great humans (and bots) on Twitter too.

These good parts of Twitter make a big difference in the real world.
I’ve grown as a person, tweet by tweet, seeing perspectives and nuance on issues that would otherwise have been inaccessible to me.
I’ve also done a lot of screaming into the void and fought with a lot of stupid, bigoted people and/or state-sponsored trolls.
It’s hard to say what Twitter, this mix of the profound, the profane, and the mundane, is all about.
But this ineffable thing has brought me a lot of joy, amusement, empathy, anger, and insight over the last 12 years.
So, thanks to everyone for making Twitter great again and again, and if your tweets are longer than 140 characters you are doing it wrong.
