I had a wetsuit that was disintegrating at the seams, but with a bit of dental floss and neoprene cement, I was able to extend it's life a bit. Here is a simple walk through of how to do a basic repair:
First step is to sew up the split. For thread I used dental floss (waxed or unwaxed) and heavy duty needles (Singer makes a cheap pack for ~$3). Both can be found at your local Walgreen's or neighborhood drugstore.
I can't sew to save my life, but a simple spiral stich, keeping the edges of the tear or split linded up an unpuckered is within the ability of even the most remedial home ec students.
Finish up the stitch securely at both ends.
End result may not be pretty, but it does the job.
Next step is to coat the stitched seam with neoprene cement. Coat the inside stitched seam, let dry for 10 minutes, then apply a second coat. Wait another 10 minutes, turn suit inside out, and apply two more coats to the other side.
